Continuing to use the remote display for two-cylinder systems even with the pressure regulation system or changeover valve having been replaced?
Due to a timely exchange or upgrade, a new pressure regulation system such as the Caramatic DriveTwo is now in use. But what happens to the remote display for the two-cylinder system that was connected? GOK shows the different possibilities.
Has the two-cylinder system already switched to reserve? When do I need a new gas cylinder? Questions such as this one are often asked by campers when using a two-cylinder system in a caravan or motor caravan.
A remote display, such as the Caramatic TwoControl from GOK or the DuoC from Truma, ensures greater clarity and convenience when it comes to mobile LPG management. Campers can see at a glance whether the automatic changeover valve has already switched to the reserve cylinder.
So far, so good. But what happens when the changeover valve, as the sole component or as part of a pressure regulation system (e.g. with crash sensor), is due for replacement after ten years? And what about switching from an older, silver-coloured Truma DuoControl CS to the Caramatic DriveTwo from GOK.
For most applications, there is a simple solution for enabling continued use of the remote display, which does not have to be replaced.
Date of manufacture of GOK Caramatic DriveTwo, ProTwo or SwitchTwo: up to 09/2022
The following applies for campers who have purchased a GOK Caramatic DriveTwo, ProTwo or SwitchTwo with a date of manufacture up to 09/2022:
- Remote display GOK Caramatic TwoControl can be used without issue
- Remote display Truma DuoC can be used without issue
Date of manufacture of GOK Caramatic DriveTwo, ProTwo or SwitchTwo: from 10/2022
The following applies for campers who have purchased a GOK Caramatic DriveTwo, ProTwo or SwitchTwo with a date of manufacture 10/2022 or later:
- Remote display GOK Caramatic TwoControl can be used, but…
- Remote display Truma DuoC can be used, but…
In 2022, we revised the visual indicators (red/green display) of the DriveTwo, ProTwo and SwitchTwo. Campers have to complete a few steps to continue to use their installed remote displays such as the GOK Caramatic TwoControl or Truma DuoC.
What to do if the date of manufacture is 09/2022 or earlier?
This is the simplest case for campers, because they essentially have to do nothing at all. Simply install the existing remote display transmitter on the new fitting and the system will continue to function as usual.
If you are not sure of the exact date of manufacture, the following image provides some help:
What to do if the date of manufacture is 10/2022 or later?
Option 1:
GOK Caramatic DriveTwo, SwitchTwo, ProTwo & remote display GOK Caramatic TwoControl or remote display Truma DuoC
In principle, the new Caramatic DriveTwo, ProTwo or SwitchTwo models are fully compatible with an existing Caramatic TwoControl or Truma DuoC remote display. For a correct display on the control panel, only a small intervention is required.
For orientation purposes, we first describe the general system diagram in the following illustration. The remote display transmitter (A) is located directly on the gas pressure regulator or the changeover valve. The distance between the remote display transmitter (A) and the connection point (B) to the display is approximately two metres (2 m).
Please locate the connection point on the cable (1) to the remote display transmitter. Then disconnect the cable connection (2) and connect the adapter cable (3 + 4). The adapter cable is included in the scope of delivery of the above-mentioned GOK products.
That’s it! Now the operator can once again enjoy the comfort and convenience of the Caramatic TwoControl remote display.
If the cable connection point is not accessible, the pink and yellow wires can also be replaced directly on the Truma DuoC control panel. The following steps are necessary:
-
- Remove the Truma DuoC control panel from the wall and open the cover on the back; a 10-pin connector will be visible (1).
- Cut the pink and yellow wires and strip the ends (2).
- Using a clamp, connect the pink wire coming from the pin header to the yellow wire leading to the bottle cabinet (3).
- Using a clamp, connect the yellow wire coming from the pin header to the pink wire leading to the cylinder cabinet (3).
- Refit the Truma DuoC control panel.
After correct installation, the display shows the status of the two-bottle system again as usual.
Option 2:
GOK Caramatic DriveTwo, SwitchTwo, ProTwo & remote display from other manufacturers
If the existing remote display is not the Caramatic TwoControl from GOK or the Truma DuoC, there are two possibilities:
Option 1: If the existing remote display transmitter fits and you do nothing else, the message on the display is the other way round and not as usual, e.g.:
-
- Message ‘One gas cylinder empty’ means: ‘Both gas cylinders not empty’
- Message ‘Both gas cylinders not empty’ means: ‘One gas cylinder empty’
The following applies: If you can accept this, you do not need to do anything else.
Option 2: Otherwise, the wiring must also be changed slightly for this application.
First, the cable connection point between the remote display transmitter and the control unit (approx. two metres away from the remote display transmitter) must be located again. Next, cut the yellow and pink wires of the cable leading to the remote display transmitter and strip the insulation from the ends to be connected (pink wire from the remote display transmitter, yellow wire from the connection point) (2).
Finally, connect the pink wire coming from the transmitter to the yellow wire leading to the connection point (3) and the remote indicator will function as usual again.
Where do I get the adapter cable?
The adapter cable described above has been included with the Caramatic DriveTwo, SwitchTwo and ProTwo models for quite some time. Therefore, please check the packaging first. If you nevertheless do not have an adapter cable but would like to perform this conversion, you can contact us directly. Please send an e-mail with the request “Adapter cable for remote display” to the following e-mail address: info@gok.de.
Important general note on electrical connections
During all of the assembly and installation work described above, you must bear in mind that electrical connections in the gas cylinder cabinets of the camping vehicle are strictly prohibited. Therefore, please ensure that no electrical connections, such as the connection points of the adapter cable, are located in the gas cylinder cabinet after the conversion work.
Please also be aware that assembly work – especially on electrical connections – must be carried out by specialist personnel, as described in the respective assembly and operating manuals.
