How can I install a quick-release connection for a gas hose and gas equipment?

Quick couplers, also known as quick-release connections, offer certain advantages in LPG systems, for instance when operating gas-powered barbecues and when camping. The first advantage can be found in the name “quick-release connection”. Other advantages, such as where to install a quick coupler and what adapters are available, are explained in this article.

The first advantage can be found in the name “quick-release connection”. Other advantages, such as where to install a quick coupler and what adapters are available, are explained in this article.

What is a quick coupler?

GOK has been offering its SKU-QR type quick coupler for connecting gas hoses to gas equipment such as barbecues, patio heaters, pizza ovens, camping stoves and other products since the start of 2024. The SKU-QR type quick coupler consists of two parts: an adapter with a plug-in fitting and the matching quick-release connection.

The SKU-QR type quick coupler from GOK consists of two parts: the plug-in fitting for connection to the gas equipment on the left, and the quick-release connection as counterpart to the connection to the gas hose on the right.

Installation of the quick-release connection

The adapter is screwed to the gas equipment and is available for different connections, such as G 1/4 lh M, G 5/8 UNF or pipe socket 8 (i.e. a pipe with an external diameter of 8 mm). The quick-release connection is connected to the gas hose and is also available in a variety of connection options.

Advantage 1: easy

It now only takes one click to establish a tight connection between the gas cylinder, the pressure reducer and gas hose and the gas equipment. The operator guides the quick coupler on the gas hose to the plug-in fitting on the barbecue, gas stove or pizza oven.

You hear a clearly audible click which means you have established the connection – without having to use any tools.

Advantage 2: quick

Is it a right-hand or left-hand thread? Tighten the nut hand-tight. Find the wrench. Which one do I need? Oh yes, the 17 mm. Tighten again with the wrench. Is it tight enough?

This is usually how things work with “classic” connections – a procedure that can sometimes take a long time. The simplicity of the SKU-QR type quick coupler system also helps with the speed at which a tight and safe connection can be established.

Easy, quick, safe: with the SKU-QR quick coupler, operators of LPG systems can establish a tight and safe connection between the gas hose and gas equipment in just one click.

Advantage 3: safe

the SKU-QR quick coupler system is safe because the gas only flows when both parts (the plug-in fitting and quick-release connection) are correctly connected with each other. In addition to this, the gas flow is also stopped straight away as soon as the two parts are disconnected.

This also means it is tamper-proof, as it can only be released with the use of the corresponding counterpart.

Adapter

Gas equipment and hoses have a wide variety of connections. GOK offers suitable adapters for the SKU-QR type quick coupler for the most common gas connections. From the G 1/4 lh nut to the G 5/8 UNF nut (as commonly used in American barbecues) to the compr. fit. 8 and more, we cover all the options. Areas of use for the quick-release connection

The possible uses of the quick coupler from GOK are numerous, whether it’s at home or when camping or touring:

  • Gas cookers or gas-powered barbecues
  • Patio heaters or radiant heaters
  • Gas stoves
  • Pizza ovens

The quick-release connection can also be used when touring in a motor caravan or caravan, although a restriction applies in this case: it isn’t suitable for use inside the leisure vehicle, as part of the permanently-installed pipe system, for example!

It goes without saying that you can remove the gas cylinder from the cylinder crate and then connect it to the gas equipment. Or you might have an external gas connector that you then connect to the external gas equipment via a hose and quick-release connection.
