The GOK SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi makes monitoring tank levels significantly more convenient. This innovative, battery-operated device enables precise remote display of tank contents and offers a user-friendly solution for managing heating oil, diesel, and other liquids. This blog post will guide you step-by-step through the installation and commissioning of the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi. We will start with the mounting of the device and the measuring hose, then guide you through the commissioning process so you can keep an eye on your tank level at all times.
Foreword
Although this text provides some illustrative details on the mounting and commissioning of the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi, it does not replace the installation and operating instructions. If you have chosen the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi, the supplied installation and operating instructions are the basis for a smooth and successful installation.
Mounting the Device and Measuring Hose
Preparation
Before starting the installation, check the product for transport damage and ensure all components are complete. We recommend that qualified personnel perform the installation to ensure safe and correct mounting.
Recommendation from GOK: After unpacking the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi, read the enclosed installation and operating instructions to ensure smooth installation.
Installing the Measuring Hose with Weighted Sleeve
Mounting set attachment: Screw the mounting set into the tank lid in an airtight manner, for example, using PTFE tape to ensure a tight connection. If the tank has larger connection threads than G1 1/2, commercially available reducers can be used to reduce them to the G1 1/2 connection thread of the installation body.
Insert measuring hose: Insert the measuring hose with the weighted sleeve through the cable gland of the mounting set into the tank.
Secure measuring hose: Lower the measuring hose with the weighted sleeve into the tank until the weighted sleeve touches the tank bottom. Then secure the measuring hose by tightening the cable gland. The weighted sleeve can also be positioned lying on the tank bottom if preferred.
Consideration of sump deposits: If there are deposits on the tank bottom, do not insert the hose all the way to the bottom. Consider this distance between the hose end and the tank bottom in future measurements.
These steps ensure that the measuring hose is correctly installed and enables precise measurements.
Mounting the Display Device
Remove housing cover: Loosen the screw on the underside of the display device and remove the housing cover.
Positioning: Place the display device above the highest possible fill level of the tank on a smooth, vertical wall.
Mark positions: Punch through the pre-punched recesses on the inside of the housing rear wall and mark the positions for mounting.
Attachment: Mount the display device using the enclosed dowels and screws. Be careful not to damage electronic components.
Connecting the Measuring Hose to the Pressure Pump
Ensure the measuring hose is securely and tightly connected to the pressure pump. Check the connection to prevent accidental loosening.
Also important:
Route the measuring hose to the display device without kinks.
Do not pull over sharp edges.
Route the measuring hose to the tank in a downward direction.
Shorten the measuring hose if necessary.
Commissioning the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi
Configure Tank Settings
Press the “Fitter Button” inside the device. If the display is on, wait until it goes out.
Connect to Wi-Fi hotspot: Open the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone and connect to the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi’s Wi-Fi hotspot. The hotspot name is “smartbox_” followed by the device ID located on the side of the nameplate.
Scan QR code: Scan the QR code on the inside of the housing cover with your mobile device’s camera.
Open website: After scanning the QR code, the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi website will open. Here you can define tank settings such as language, display unit, operating medium, and tank shape.
Confirm settings: Check the entered data and confirm the settings. Close the housing cover and secure it with the screw.
Use your smartphone or tablet to scan the QR code on the inside of the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi and configure the tank settings.
Add Device to the App
Download app: Download the GOK-SmartBox app to your mobile device. The app is available in the App Store and Google Play Store.
Add device: Open the app and click the “+” symbol. A QR code scanner will open, allowing you to scan the QR code on the front of the device. After a successful scan, the device will appear in the app.
Integration into Local Wi-Fi
Activate Wi-Fi hotspot: If the device is not switched on, switch it on briefly via the touch sensor. Then press the touch sensor until the display changes to activate the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi’s Wi-Fi hotspot.
Connect to Wi-Fi hotspot: Open the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone and connect to the network “smartbox_XXXXXXXXXXX,” where “XXXXXXXXXXX” is the device ID.
Enter Wi-Fi data: Open the app and click on the desired device to access the device page. Press the “Wi-Fi symbol” and enter the SSID and password of your local Wi-Fi network in the window that opens. You can find this information on your router.
Confirm connection: Confirm the entry of the Wi-Fi data. A message will appear in the app confirming that the Wi-Fi data has been successfully transmitted to the device. If an error message appears, the mobile device was not connected to the device’s Wi-Fi hotspot at the time of Wi-Fi setup.
To check if the Wi-Fi data has been entered correctly, perform a first measurement by touching the touch sensor when the display shows “Measure fill level.” The device will now display the tank content together with the free space indication. If an additional triangle is displayed, this indicates that the Wi-Fi network is not available or that the Wi-Fi data has not been entered correctly.
Once the SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi is correctly installed, the user can monitor the tank level via the app from anywhere in the world.
With the GOK SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi, you have access to the current fill levels of your tank at any time—easily via the app on your smartphone. The installation is straightforward and safe, thanks to the detailed instructions. Experience the benefits of this innovative device and optimize your tank monitoring!

FAQ – Install and Commission
Installation takes place in several steps: preparation, insertion of the measuring tube, mounting of the display unit and connection to the pressure pump. A tight fit and correct positioning of all components is essential. The enclosed installation and operating manual provides detailed instructions.
Commissioning begins by pressing the fitter button inside the device, connecting to the Wi-Fi hotspot and scanning the QR code located inside the housing cover. Tank parameters such as tank shape and medium can then be defined.
The device's Wi-Fi hotspot is activated and the smartphone connects to it. The home network credentials are then entered in the app and transmitted to the device.
After downloading the GOK SmartBox app, the device is added by tapping the “+” symbol and scanning the QR code on the front. It will then appear in the device list.
Once setup is complete, the first measurement displays the current tank level and available capacity. An additional icon indicates if the Wi-Fi connection is unavailable or the data was entered incorrectly.
The SmartBox AIR Wi-Fi is suitable for heating oil, diesel, rainwater and other non-aggressive liquids, provided the tank complies with the installation specifications.
GOK strongly recommends installation by qualified personnel to ensure safety and proper functionality.
